From Photo to Heirloom

Commissioning a portrait with me is a thoughtful and collaborative process from start to finish. It begins with you reaching out and sharing your photos, ideas, and a little about your animal—their name, their personality, what makes them them.

 

From there, we'll discuss sizing and I'll help you select the reference images that will best capture your pet's detail and expression. Each piece is created entirely freehand in soft pastel, as I carefully build up fine layers to create a highly realistic, lifelike work with depth, softness, and lasting quality.

Every portrait is created with close attention and intention. My goal is not just to recreate an image, but to honour your animal—to capture their spirit in a way that feels real, personal, and deeply meaningful to you.

04 Reference Photos

Photo quality matters: Please upload the highest resolution images available — original photos taken on a phone or camera are ideal. Screenshots, heavily filtered images, or photos taken of a screen are not recommended. Natural lighting and sharp focus at eye level give the best results. Please upload multiple photos — the more I have to work with, the better!

All portraits are created in soft pastel and will need to be framed behind glass with matting to protect and preserve the artwork. When choosing your size, please keep in mind that framing will add to the overall finished dimensions. All prices in Canadian dollars (CAD).

09 Before You Submit

I love to share my work and process on social media — it's how other pet lovers find me! If you'd prefer that I wait until your portrait is in your hands before sharing anything, especially for gifts, just let me know and I'll happily hold off. If you'd like to keep it private altogether, that's completely okay too — just mention it in your inquiry.🤍

A note on revisions: I invest a great deal of care into understanding your vision before I ever pick up a pastel. The consultation process is where we align on all the details — composition, size, background, and reference photos — so that I can get it right the first time. I encourage you to share any questions or preferences openly during that stage, as changes are not possible once work is underway.

What happens after you hit send? I'll review your inquiry and reach out within 3-5 days to talk you through your portrait, confirm pricing, and answer any questions — all before committing to anything. Once you're ready to go ahead, a 30% deposit secures your spot, payable via e-transfer or PayPal for international clients. You're in good hands.🤍
